Wall-Mount Rack Cabinet FAQ

How do Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets differ from other types of rack cabinets?
Unlike free-standing SmartRack Cabinets, Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets can be mounted on walls, positioned on flat surfaces or rolled under desks, tables or counters, and are perfect for housing IT equipment in rooms with limited floor space.
How do I determine the height of the cabinet I need?
Unlike free-standing SmartRack Cabinets, Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets can be mounted on walls, positioned on flat surfaces or rolled under desks, tables or counters, and are perfect for housing IT equipment in rooms with limited floor space.
How do I determine the depth of the cabinet I need?
Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets feature adjustable mounting depths with minimums of either 3 or 17 inches and maximums of 16.5, 20.5 or 32.5 inches. To determine the maximum depth you need, measure the depth of your equipment and add 3 inches to allow space for cabling. A cabinet with a maximum depth of 20.5 inches will accommodate equipment with a maximum depth of 17.5 inches.
Are Eaton's Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI)
Yes. All of Eaton's Cabinets are PCI-Compliant. Sturdy steel panels surround all sides of equipment, preventing unauthorized access to networking devices and ensuring the physical security of equipment that processes, stores and transmits credit card data.
Are Eaton's Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets compliant with Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) and Telecommunications Industry Alliance (TIA) standards?
Yes. All of Eaton's Cabinets are fully compliant with EIA and TIA specifications.
Is it difficult to install a Wall-Mount Rack Cabinet?
No. As long as you have a surface that is capable of bearing the combined weight of a unit and the equipment inside of it, mounting a cabinet is quite simple. You need a level, a Phillips-head screwdriver, wall-mounting hardware, and any other tools appropriate for wall-mounting. To install a cabinet under a desk, table or counter, use an optional Rolling Caster Kit, available separately from Eaton, which will assist you in moving the cabinet.
Are Eaton's Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets only compatible with equipment manufactured by Eaton?
No. A major advantage of Eaton Rack Systems is that they are easier to integrate into existing IT infrastructures than many competitive models. They feature an open, vendor-neutral architecture that allows them to easily integrate with other racks and accessories, whether from Eaton or Eaton's competitors.

Will a Wall-Mount Rack Cabinet keep my equipment safe and secure?
Absolutely. Most Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets are constructed of sturdy steel frames with securely locking front doors, side panels and wall brackets. Perforated front doors and side panels permit generous airflow to keep equipment operating safely.
How much weight can a Wall-Mount Rack Cabinet hold?
Depending on the model, Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets can hold between 150 and 250 lbs. of equipment.
How easy is it to access equipment that is housed in a Wall-Mount Rack Cabinet?
Extremely easy. Most cabinets include a sturdy hinge between the cabinet and wall bracket, allowing the cabinet to swing away from the wall for easy access to equipment and cabling. Top and bottom panels include channels for cable routing, and front doors and side panels are removable. Frames can be locked in closed position during normal operation or locked open during equipment configuration and maintenance.
What types of facilities are ideal for Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets?
Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets provide the perfect solution for standard rackmount equipment in applications with limited floor space, such as wiring closets, classrooms, POS stations and small offices.
What kind of equipment can be housed in a Wall-Mount Rack Cabinet?
Most people use Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets to house standard rackmount equipment, such as servers, switches and routers, but as long as the total weight inside of a cabinet does not exceed the cabinet's weight capacity, a Wall-Mount Rack Cabinet can house any kind of equipment that requires extra protection and security. A Wall-Mount Rack Cabinet is essentially a locking, steel-framed cabinet.
Can two or more Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets be stacked on top of each other?
No. Wall-mount rack cabinets are extremely heavy. Do not attempt to stack them.
Are any of Eaton's Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets designed for harsh work environments?
Yes. Eaton's Industrial model (SRW12USNEMA) carries the NEMA 12 (IP54) rating, indicating that it protects against dirt, dust, drips and splashes found in harsh work environments. The Industrial Cabinet's doors feature louvres and caps to block drips and splashes as well as additional seals and a built-in air filter to block dust and dirt.
Are any of Eaton's Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets designed specifically for high-traffic areas?
Yes. Eaton's Low-Profile model (SRWF5U) is designed for high-traffic areas, particularly in IT and educational applications. In a Low-Profile Cabinet, equipment is mounted vertically, reducing the distance the rack extends from the wall. Because of this, the height of the Low-Profile model (5U, or 8.75 inches) is measured horizontally, or outwardly from the wall.

In what heights are Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets available?
Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets are available in a variety of heights with internal rack space measurements ranging from 5U (8.75 inches) to 26U (45.5 inches).
Do Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets ship fully assembled?
Yes. All Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets ship fully assembled.
What types of accessories are available for Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets?
The optional Rolling Caster Kit adapts Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets to free-standing and roll-away applications under desks, counters and tables. Additional SmartRack Cooling Solutions and Rack Accessories are also available, such as air conditioning units, heat removal systems, airflow and cable management products, rack shelves and mounting hardware.
Do Eaton's Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets come with warranties?
Yes. Each of Eaton's Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
