Management Solutions / PowerAlert Network Management System (NMS)

PowerAlert Network Management System is for advanced users only. PowerAlert Network Management System can monitor and control up to 250 SNMP-enabled devices, including UPS systems with a WEBCARDLX or an SNMPWEBCARD*, UPS systems that appear on the network via PowerAlert Local (or previous versions of PowerAlert*) and network-enabled PDUs*. All the functions available through the PowerAlert Local console will be available for the remote devices and also for local devices that are directly connected to the host computer.

* Software or firmware version 12.04.0040 and above

Features

Reduces Deployment Time

  • Mass Configuration of Devices – PowerAlert saves time and money by allowing managers to mass-configure multiple remote device settings from a single location.
  • Device Auto-Discovery – Managers can set PowerAlert to auto-discover UPS and PDU devices in specific network segments or IP address ranges.

Reduces Troubleshooting Time

  • Alarm History – PowerAlert speeds up alarm resolution by pooling all network alarms into a single, sortable easy-to-read list. Alarm entries feature intuitive color coding, including white (normal), yellow (warning) and red (critical).
  • "Recommended Action" Messaging – PowerAlert takes the guesswork out of how to respond to alarms. When managers select a device from the Network Management Screen, the device's real-time power status is displayed along with the alarm's "cause" and recommended "response."

Simplifies Network Power Management

  • SNMP Control – Any UPS or switched PDU with a USB or serial connection can be monitored via SNMP. PowerAlert's built-in SNMP agent can make even a basic desktop UPS a monitored device on your network, visible to the PowerAlert NMS or any third-party NMS such as HP OpenView.
  • Alarm Notification – PowerAlert keeps managers continuously apprised of network power conditions through emails and SNMP traps, enabling them to proactively manage power problems before they affect productivity.
  • Individual Outlet Control – PowerAlert lets managers reboot locked devices or preserve runtime for more critical equipment by remotely controlling the power outlets of UPS and power distribution units that offer outlet control capability. Select UPS and PDU devices can also be configured to perform custom, sequential startup and shutdown sequences.
  • Redundant UPS System Management – PowerAlert can manage multiple UPS systems connected to a single load. For example, when two UPS systems are connected to separate power supplies on a server, PowerAlert can be configured to gracefully shutdown the server only after battery power is exhausted on both UPS systems.
  • Network Shutdown Commands – When a UPS communicates with PowerAlert software, other computers on the network may also be dependent on the condition of the UPS. With PowerAlert Network Shutdown Agent installed, these dependent systems can listen for an outage and automatically shut down before UPS battery power is exhausted. PowerAlert can also execute custom scripts upon any alarm condition.
  • Convenient Web-Browser Access – With the addition of the optional SNMP Web/Card, network managers can control network resources from a secure, password-protected browser session (HTTP or HTTPS).

Special Note for Cisco Customers: Eaton's PowerAlert Software (version 12.5 or better) has tested compatible with Cisco CallManager, versions 4.0 and 4.1, Cisco 7600 Series Routers, 7500 Series Routers and Catalyst 65XX Layer 3 Switch. Eaton PowerAlert Software, version 12, has tested compatible with Cisco CallManager, versions 3.3(4)-MCS and 4.0(2)-MCS.
