  Q:

How does an on-line UPS differ from a line-interactive or standby UPS?

  A:

A line-interactive or standby UPS passes utility power to connected equipment, filtering out surges, spikes, and line noise as it does so. When a severe brownout or a power outage occurs, the DC to AC inverter will switch on, supplying a modified sine wave output from battery. An on-line UPS uses a double conversion process: incoming AC is converted to DC, and DC is converted back to AC. Since the DC-to-AC inverter runs constantly there is no switching time, and connected equipment receives pure, filtered sine wave output at all times.

  Q:

What is the difference between SMART and OMNISMART UPS Systems?

  A:

SMART UPS Systems have an enhanced microprocessor that can monitor and report more UPS variables (e.g. UPS input voltage, load, and battery capacity). OMNISMART UPS Systems can report three UPS variables only: UPS in line mode, on battery, and battery low.

  Q:

What are the largest VA-rated UPS Systems manufactured by Tripp Lite that run on 120VAC input and output 120VAC?

  A:
  • SU3000RTXL3U
  • SU30000XL
  • SMART3000RM2U
  • SMART3000VS
  • SMART3000NET

To utilize full UPS output potential, a connection to a dedicated 30-amp circuit is necessary. For more information, see individual UPS specifications.

UPS Operation

  Q:

Can a UPS be plugged into one another UPS (daisy chained)?

  A:

No, UPS systems cannot be daisy chained. If you require additional capacity or battery runtime, select a larger UPS or one that accepts external battery packs. If connected equipment has redundant power supplies and redundancy is required, it is recommended that two UPS systems, plugged into two different circuits, be used.

  Q:

Can the UPS alarm be permanently disabled?

  A:

No, the UPS alarm cannot be permanently disabled, but select Tripp Lite UPS models permit the alarm to be muted when the UPS is operating in battery mode.

  Q:

Why won't the "Load Active Meter" illuminate when my UPS is connected to a load of less than 25%?

  A:

The "Load Active Meter" will not illuminate to show a load percentage LED until the UPS output load exceeds 25%.

UPS Troubleshooting

  Q:

Why won't my new UPS power up?

  A:

Tripp Lite UPS systems must be charged for 4-6 hours to bring the battery up to 90% capacity. Under certain conditions no LEDs will illuminate until the battery is charged.

  Q:

My on-line UPS shows only two LEDs (Line and Load), and does not pass AC power to the output receptacles.

  A:

Press and hold the ON button and release it as soon as you hear a beep. Three LEDs will illuminate (Line, Load, and Online), and power will be passed to the output receptacles.

  Q:

My INTERNET350/525/550/750 UPS constantly beeps and shows a red LED.

  A:

Turn off all equipment connected to the UPS, unplug the AC cord from the wall outlet, then press and hold the OFF button until the unit is completely turned off (about 4 seconds). Wait for an additional 10 seconds to make sure that there are no LEDs flashing. Once the unit has been completely turned off, plug the AC cord back into the wall outlet. When reconnected to AC power, the unit will beep several times. It will beep several more times after performing a self-test. The line LED will then illuminate to indicate that the UPS has re-initialized.

  Q:

My Tripp Lite UPS isn't working. Is there a service center in my area where the unit can be repaired?

  A:

If your UPS is under warranty, Tripp Lite will replace it or provide other options. Contact Tripp Lite Technical Support at 773-869-1234 or email us for assistance.

UPS Batteries

  Q:

I have an older UPS system. How can I get information about battery replacement?

  A:

Contact Tripp Lite Technical Support at 773-869-1234 or by email. Have the UPS serial number, stock number, and date code available at the time of your call. A technician will identify the correct replacement battery for your UPS. You can also use our online R.B.C. Selector Guide to identify the correct replacement battery for your system.

  Q:

My UPS has been in storage and now it will not turn on. What's wrong?

  A:

When you store a UPS for an extended period, it must be plugged in and allowed to charge for 24 hours once every 3 to 6 months. Unless this is done, the UPS batteries will discharge to an unrecoverable point and the UPS will require new batteries.

  Q:

How much additional runtime do external battery packs provide for my UPS?

  A:

There is no specific amount of additional runtime that a given battery pack will provide for a given UPS; this depends on the demands of the connected load. For assistance in determining an estimated runtime, call Tripp Lite Technical Support, 773-869-1234, with your power draw information, UPS model, and battery pack model. Our interactive UPS System Selector Guide may also be used to estimate runtimes.

  Q:

Where can I send my old UPS batteries for recycling?

  A:
